The webinar “Law and Health: Shaping Humane HIV Policies in Eastern Europe and Central Asia” was held for judges in the EECA region.

On September 30, 2024, the Judges Forum of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) region, supported by the United Nations Development Programme, held a webinar titled “Law and Health: Shaping Humane HIV Policies in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.” The webinar had a total of 40 participants representing Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. The aim of the webinar was to inform current judges in the EECA region about contemporary medical practices and advancements in HIV, as well as the legal issues faced by people living with HIV and at-risk populations (key populations).

Speakers from the Steering Committee of the EECA Judges Forum presented their reports to the webinar participants on the following topics:

The role of the judiciary in protecting the rights of key populations, with experiences from Ukraine.
The concept of “Undetectable = Untransmittable.”
Judicial practices and legislative changes in the field of HIV/AIDS in Tajikistan.
