AMITRAJIT SAHA (India) is the Manager, HIV, Health and Development, Africa and is currently Acting-in-Charge team lead for HHD in EECA and MENA regions. A public health physician with an MD in Preventive and Social Medicine, he joined UNDP as Senior Policy Advisor in the Regional Service Centre for Eastern & Southern Africa, working on UNDP’s portfolio on HIV, health and human rights. Located in the Istanbul Regional Hub since 2017, Amitrajit oversees UNDP’s work in Africa (and provides oversight to EECA and MENA HHD Teams) focused on HIV, health and human rights—that include supporting governments and regional organisations to implement LNOB principles in the context of HIV/TB and health, proving support to national and regional stakeholders and the Regional Teams in emergency/epidemic responses, greening of health systems and health procurement and ensuring health and social interventions put people at the centre and use a human rights-based approach to planning, delivery and impact measurement. Together with colleagues in MENA and EECA teams, he fosters strong cross-regional synergies to strengthen UNDP’s work on HIV, TB and human rights of key and vulnerable populations including for LGBTI people, in Africa, MENA and EECA. Before joining UNDP, Amitrajit worked in the non-profit and government sectors in health as a health projects manager, taught medical school and worked as a primary care doctor in India.
