Russian Federation: 27-year-old man sentenced to 4.5 years for alleged HIV transmission

A resident of Krasnokamensk slept with his 17-year-old acquaintance and infected her with HIV. The city court sentenced him to 4.5 years in a strict regime penal colony, according to the court website.

It is known that 27-year-old Transbaikal, knowing about his diagnosis, invited a 17-year-old friend with whom he had consensual sex without a condom. He knew he could face criminal prosecution, but the girl insisted on having sex without contraception. Subsequently, the man learned that his partner was diagnosed with HIV infection. The defendant also explained that the victim had been having promiscuous sexual relations with various partners.

The medical worker, interviewed at the hearing, confirmed that the victim’s other partners were not infected.

The court sentenced a Transbaikal man to 4.5 years in a strict regime penal colony.

MK in Chita earlier reported that in July 2021, 41 people became infected with HIV in the Transbaikal Region. The residents of Olovyaninsky, Kalarsky, and Chita districts were most often infected.
