Russian Federation: 34-year-old Vologda resident charged with alleged HIV transmission
In Vologda, a resident of the regional capital will stand trial for intentionally infecting women with HIV. The Vologda city prosecutor’s office reports.
The first deputy prosecutor of Vologda approved the indictment of the criminal case against a 34-year-old man. He is accused of intentionally infecting women with HIV by having sexual relations with them.
According to investigators, Vologda man from December 2020 until August 2021 knowing for certain that he had human immunodeficiency virus, having been warned by employees of the Centre for Prevention and Control of AIDS and Infectious Diseases about the responsibility under Article 122 of the Criminal Code for violation of hygiene rules, intentionally infected three female residents of Vologda with HIV.
The investigation established that the man met all the victims on social networks and after a short time of communicating with them, he entered into close relationships without knowingly informing them about the presence of the dangerous disease and the risk of infection. During the investigation, the defendant pleaded guilty to the crime in full.
The man faces up to eight years in prison.
